I have 2 Aerogarden 7 pod Classic systems (the Classic 7 pod, 2 season herb w/ dressing mixer & a 7 pod Classic). I’m on my 2nd round of herbs & 1st round of tomatoes. My beans croaked. My results have been mixed on both units, and I learned the following from talking to Customer Service:

1) use distilled water

2) make sure the nutrient tablets aren’t mushy

3) store nutrient tablets in the freezer

4) Aerogarden should be switched over to liquid nutrients by November 2009

I’ve had mixed results in growing my herbs & beans. Basil grows like gangbusters, as does the mint & chives, but the rest have been slow to grow or don’t grow well at all. I’ve called Customer Service multiple times, and each time the representative has been wonderful and helpful. They are also quick to replace non-growing seed pods, just as their warranty states. However, even with switching out the grow bulbs after 6 months, I’m still frustrated with my results and hope that the liquid nutrients will be the turning point for my future gardens.

Since Customer Service is convinced that Aerogarden users will see much better results with liquid nutrients, I will update with results once the liquid nutrients are shipped with the seed pods. As of today’s date, Aerogarden is still shipping with the messy nutrient tablets.

You aren’t going to make enough salad from the salad kit to pay for this, but it is fun and works well.

I’ve had this for about 6 weeks now and am truly impressed with its ease of use and how well *some* of the plants are doing. 6 of the 7 pods I tried are growing, but only the basil is doing well – and it’s growing so fast I have to cut it back every couple of days. The chives are okay, but the others (oregano, parsley, mint) are barely growing.

Still it’s fun to watch and adds some extra light and some pleasant smells to my kitchen.

It does look like it will be a mess to clean up when it’s time for a new batch. Also, it will be quite a while until I can try some of the other seed packs I purchased. It probably makes better financial sense to buy them at the grocery or grow them in dirt, but this is a lot easier.

I bought the garden and set it up and went on vacation for two weeks. When I came back I had basil ready to harvest! It seems to be working perfectly well. I didn’t get the “included” starter herb set with my kit. I called up AeroGrow and it was waiting for me when I returned from vacation. It seems like a hoaky overpriced contraption, but so far it is doing exactly what it says it will.

Great product, I recommend it to anyone with a slight interest in cooking, and/or good eating.

Sadly, out of the first eight seeds I planted on my first batch, two of them didnt sprout. However, the joy the other six have given a joy that it priceless
